Authentication+ is an enhanced Brand verification step introduced by The Campaign Registry (TCR) to strengthen the security of A2P 10DLC messaging. Launched in October 2024, this identity verification layer is designed to reduce fraud and impersonation in the business messaging ecosystem, including threats like smishing, spoofing, and Brand abuse.

Why It Matters

In the A2P 10DLC ecosystem, message origin and trust are everything. Without safeguards, bad actors can misrepresent Brands, exploit messaging channels, and put both consumers and businesses at risk. Authentication+ helps protect against that by ensuring that only legitimate, authorized representatives can register a Brand and send messages on its behalf.

This added security step fosters greater trust among brands, messaging providers, and mobile carriers—and helps businesses maintain a strong compliance posture.

How Authentication+ Works

When a new Brand is being registered (or an existing brand is updated), Authentication+ may be triggered—especially for publicly traded companies. Here’s how it works:

  1. A valid business email address is required. The Brand representative must provide an email address associated with the organization. Personal emails (e.g., Gmail or Yahoo) or generic inboxes (e.g., info@ or sales@) typically won’t be accepted.

  2. A verification email is sent. TCR sends a secure email containing a two-factor authentication (2FA) prompt to the address provided.

  3. The representative must complete verification. Once the verification is successfully completed, the brand receives an updated status of “Verified” or “Vetted_Verified,” which is required before any campaigns can be submitted.

Who Needs to Complete Authentication+?

Currently, Authentication+ is enforced for specific Brand types—particularly public profit entities—but TCR has indicated plans to broaden this requirement across additional Brand categories in the future. Whether required or not, completing Authentication+ when prompted ensures smoother and faster Brand registration.
