How It Started: Solving an Industry-Wide Problem

When 10DLC first launched, it promised a more compliant and transparent way for businesses to text their customers in North America. But it also introduced new complexities—chief among them, registration and carrier rate limits.

Every wireless carrier enforces throughput limits on how many messages can be sent in a given time period for each registered Brand and its affiliated Campaign(s). Go beyond those limits, and messages fail.

What we’ve learned is that most API providers handle this in one of two ways:

• Capping: Setting a cap at the lowest carrier rate limit across all Campaigns, which prevents failures but drastically limits a registered Brand’s true throughput potential.
• Lifting the ceiling: Letting all messages send out at once, often causing failures—especially with T-Mobile’s daily limit. When that happens, the sender still gets charged for every undelivered message.

Neither approach works. One slows down delivery and wastes your TCR investment; the other drives failed sends and unnecessary carrier fees.
